About Gregory Bruce Campbell

I teach bass, guitar, and ukulele with one goal in mind: helping students become real musicians. My approach is practical, organized, and built around the skills that actually matter — timing, feel, ear training, tone, technique, improvisation, and musical confidence.

I’m big on making difficult things easier early, including barre chords, and I teach scales, modes, soloing, and improvisation in an intentional order so they actually make sense. On bass, I focus deeply on feel, technique, groove, and understanding how bass lines really work. My goal is to help students save time, reduce frustration, play by ear, improvise with confidence, and make real progress they can hear and feel.

How I Teach

I teach for understanding, not confusion. My goal is to help students see the big picture earlier, avoid common mistakes, and build skills that actually transfer into real music-making. Lessons are practical, encouraging, and high-yield — focused on helping students hear better, understand more, play with better time, build stronger fundamentals, and become more confident on the instrument.

Whether a student is brand new, returning after years away, or trying to break through a plateau, I focus on helping them make meaningful progress without wasting time on disconnected information. I do not teach music as theory only, technique only, or memorization only. I teach from the standpoint of real-world musicianship: how to listen, how to understand what is happening, and how to actually use those skills in real music.

Experience and Credibility

I have been teaching private music lessons since 1988, and over the years I have helped thousands of students grow in skill, confidence, and musicianship. My background also includes performing, recording, and hands-on instrument work, and all of that experience shapes how I teach. Many of my students have gone on to become teachers themselves, which is one of the clearest signs that the lessons are building real understanding — not just short-term results.

I have worked with students of many different ages, skill levels, and backgrounds — from complete beginners to experienced players who needed a clearer path forward. That long view helps me spot common sticking points quickly and guide students toward progress that is practical, musical, and lasting. I do not want students to simply collect songs. I want them to become more capable, confident, well-rounded musicians.

Who My Lessons Are For

Lessons are for beginners, returning players, developing musicians, and serious students who want a clearer path forward. Some students want to strum songs, some want to understand the fretboard, some need better rhythm and ear training, and some want to become stronger all-around musicians. Wherever a student is starting from, I shape lessons around their goals, experience level, and pace.

The goal is to create a path that is practical, encouraging, and effective — so each student can make steady progress, build real confidence, and become more musical over time.
